DIY Security Camera Types Part 2
Bullet Cameras (Fixed Point)
Fixed in location looking at one point (entranceway etc). Suitable for wall or ceiling mounting, indoors or out.
- Easier Installation: Straightforward to install, typically with an adjustable mounting bracket for quick setup. This also makes post install adjustments easier
- Obvious: If you want people to know they are being recorded they will see and recognise this style
- Ideal For Outdoors: Pointed tip at the edge of the camera protects the lens from damage and harsh weather
Dome Cameras (Turret)
Fixed in location looking at one point (entranceway etc). Best suited for mounting on the ceiling but can be wall mounted.
For outdoor or indoors. Typically used indoors eg. office or retail.
- Discrete Positioning: Harder for onlookers to determine the camera’s direction
- Limited Adjustability: Repositioning dome cameras after installation can be challenging
- Vandal Proof (Model Dependant): Having a protective case around the lens helps avoid damage
Pan Tilt Zoom (PTZ)
With the ability to pan, tilt and zoom these cameras can cover multiple viewpoints.
Depending on the model you will have the option of wall and/or ceiling mounting. Indoor versions can also be placed on shelves/desks etc.
- Large Field Of View: Cover large areas manually or use automatic "patrol points" (model dependant)
- Track Moving Objects: Auto-Tracking can help monitor people, vehicles & pets (model dependant)
- Limitations: Recommended to be used in conjunction with fixed point cameras. A PTZ camera will not record an event if it's not facing the right direction.
Video Doorbells
All the great features of a security camera combined with a doorbell.
Get alerts when someone approaches your door or presses the doorbell.
- Increased Field Of View: Designed to see peoples faces and packages left at your door
- Chimes: Chime included so you can hear the doorbell inside
- 2-Way Audio: Chat to visitors remotely or use pre-programmed answers
